Physical Characteristics Hybrid Elves have a random mixture of traits from both parents. Usually, they have slightly pointed ears, but some have the ears of their non-Elf parent (Human, Dwarf, or Wizard). Often, Hybrids suffer a harmful new trait due to a cross-over mutation that occurred during fertilization. Many do not survive past the age of eighteen. The few who do may have an altered pheromone production mechanism which leads to an overproduction similar to that of an Elf's ovulation, except that it's constant after puberty and doesn't require the binding touch. Creation of a Hybrid The Elven parent has a mutated pheromone and pheromone receptor that matches up to a non-Elf fated mate. Non-Elves (Humans, Wizards, and Dwarves) have general pheromone receptors that can detect nearly every Homo sapien pheromone. Ability for Magic If the Hybrid offspring inherited the Elven subcellular structure for energy conversion, she/he can perform Common Elf Magic. If the Hybrid offspring also inherited the non-Elven parent's genes for mitochondrial control and reproduction, she/he will produce enough energy to bribe the Elementals without an Elven population and command Elven King's Magic. A very strong Hyrbid can lure Elementals away from Elven land and perform Elven King's Magic anywhere, which can be dangerous for all others concerned. Unlike either parent, Hybrids can perform Wizardry, a newer and very potent form of magic that requires massive amounts of energy. Common Elf Magic Elven King's Magic Wizardry Fated Mates Some Hybrids have Elven pheromone receptors and can only reproduce after the binding touch with their fated mate. Those with a non-Elven pheromone receptor can choose their mate. Rarely, a Hybrid has a mutated pheromone receptor that can loosely detect all pheromones enough to allow orgasm but her reproductive system can only be activated by a specific pheromone that fits tightly. Elementals Typically, when a Hybrid dies, she/he joins the Elementals. If the Hybrid had no loyalty to a land during life, she/he will most likely be a rogue Elemental who serves whoever has the most energy to give. Rogue Elementals often add chaos to the laws of nature. When an object seems to defy gravity or when a room suddenly darkens for no reason at all, a rogue Elemental is near. They'll behave for a rare Hybrid who produces extraordinary amounts of energy and who commands Elven Elven King's Magic. Anyone else should beware. All Elven and Hybrid spirits are divided into four Elemental categories: fire, earth, water, and air depending on where their strength lies. They can be seen when called upon by the name they bore in life and gifted enough energy to shed light. Elven Land Elven land conducts energy, including that of a Hybrid Elf who treads over it. Elementals sense this and can choose whether to alert the king or queen. Usually, Elementals choose to persuade the Hybrid to share his/her energy. Note from Ness The idea for Hybrid Elves came from my insecurities and some uncomfortable events. I'm half Mexican and half Irish, but by the combo of both's views - I'm neither. My Mexican side considers me white. My Irish side considers me Mexican. In my own mind, I'm both. However, I can't change the way others see me. In real life, that's impossible. In the fictional realm of New Pangaea, my Hybrid characters deal with that same problem and can achieve acceptance from both races. Of course, there are a few characters who take longer than one novel to broaden their views. |
