Making of New Pangaea

There's a well supported theory that
our continents are drifting back
together into a new Pangaea. That'll
take many, many millions of years.
But...catastrophes such as nuclear war
and a giant meteor striking the Earth,
knocking loose another moon could
catalyze the formation of New Pangaea.
(Plus, two moons!)

I named the second moon - the Red Moon
due to its high iron content which
reflects red light onto Earth at
night. The Red Moon's lunar cycle is
twice as long as that of the Old Moon
due to its greater distance from
Earth.

What if the people who knew how to
build and operate power plants, sewage
plants, etc perished in the
catastrophes that gave rise to New
Pangaea? Survivors would hide
underground. But what if it took more
than one generation of waiting before
safely returning to the surface?
Technologies and much knowledge would
be lost. Most of the damages would be
irreparable.

Prolonged separations of populations
and hard times can give rise to new
races (and new species if separated
long enough). Add a little magic and
nuclear waste to that evolution
underground to make my Elves, Wizards,
Dwarves, Gnomes, etc.

Since these new peoples are able
reproduce with humans, they're just
other races of Homo sapiens. The
unchanged Homo sapiens (our current
races of Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian,
Black, etc) are collectively called
the "human" race.

After everyone returns to the surface,
the battles between the new races
begin, similar to what must have
happened to the multiple hominid
species of the past when re-exposed to
each other.
