Other National Symbols Crab and trident. Form of Government Monarchy. Terrain & Climate The entire western border of Porter is long, sandy beaches. Port cities sprawl throughout the many bays that interrupt the stretching beaches. Howling winds in every winter have created great dunes behind the beaches that serve to protect towns from the elements. Farther inland, Porter is blessed with great hills and mountains. Its position between these natural barriers provides Porter with good defense from hostile neighbors. Populace The population of Porter varies greatly due to immigration booms and recent plagues. The population currently hovers around 170,000 with an estimated 2,000 unregistered transients in any given month. The transients are mostly foreign tradesmen and travelers who may or may not take up permanent residence in Porter. Traders from all over New Pangaea sail into these ports bringing goods, immigrants, and everything else that makes Porter such a culturally diverse nation. Several devastating plagues from the past had taken a toll on the population, both physically and socially, from which Porter is still recovering. While the economy and population seem to be near normalcy, traces of the racist hysteria following the plagues are still evident. Many ethnic groups are subconsciously more comfortable in neighborhoods consisting of their own people and while there are no segregation policies in law, there still exists some feelings of mistrust in some natives to the traders and immigrants that visit the ports daily. These issues seem to become less prevalent the farther inland one travels into Porter. Note from Ben Porter was named after a Labrador who literally ate holes in walls. |
